Gallery of Past Work and Commissioned Custom Work
Have you ever had an idea for a piece of jewelry or an object that would represent an important transition, phase of growth, or symbol in your life? I want to help you realize your ideas in physical form, as something you can hold in your hand or wear on your person and cherish. I use materials that last, and with care, your idea will become a family heirloom. I have studied jewelry and metalsmithing for 10+ years, and use mostly hollow-forming, chasing, fabrication, and stone setting techniques to bring ideas into the third dimension by hand. Altar Jewelry is intentional adornment for healing, honoring, and growth. Materials and designs are chosen for their metaphysical value and energetic healing properties. All silver and gold is recycled, and conflict-free or repurposed stones are used at every opportunity, in a studio where green practices are prioritized. All work is hand hammered and formed from start to finish, using some of the oldest metalsmithing techniques and as little technology as possible. Reaching for earthier and more sustainable practices all the time, in the studio, and in life every day.
I have been living in California since 2012, where I now have a studio at my home in Nicasio. I use historical metalsmithing techniques known as hollow forming to create voluminous forms out of sheet metal, and chasing and repoussé, which is a combination of techniques which together create a type of sheet metal embossing. These techniques allow me to enliven flat sheet metal with imagery, texture, and form. I studied metalsmithing and jewelry making at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where I received a BFA in Fine Art, and I have studied under various teachers at both the Penland School of Crafts and the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.
